The Forgotten Army

So here are the first results of the lockdown painting. This was the "Forgotten Army" in more ways than one. I forgot I had them, and then forgot I had primed them in green paint as an experiment. Don't think I will be doing that again. Perry Miniatures British Infantry painted up as 14th Army to go with my Chindits and Gurkhas. they can serve as Punjab Regiment, or Rajputs. Mostly metal, the Bren team is plastic 8th Army. I wanted to make them look like they were in light fighting order during the siege at Kohima, so not dripping with kit, like Warlords Chindits and Gurkhas. From photos it looks like the dress was a mix of Jungle Green denims and Khaki. (in so far as you can tell from black and white photos). So I tried the Foundry Forest Green, which worked OK, but the highlight tone needed darkening. Khaki was the Black Cat pots of three. Flesh was Foundry North African. Webbing British Blanco Green. the highlighting on that colour is infuriatingly subtle.

Part 2 A Whiff of Grapeshot - or was it the Curry?

Okay, I should say a little about these photos, taken about two months ago. First photos of minis with a camera. The Mins are all Front Rank (the dead Frenchie is a Perry), and all painted over a black undercoat with Vallejos/Citadel. I am now mostly using foundry system, but still some Vallejos. The flags are bits of old shirt, handpainted. Colour parties of the 52nd and 27th, the rest are RA, Rifles and 1DG. Basing not finished - I tend to do it all at once. I now have four battalions of Infantry, 1 brigade of Heavy Cavalry, and some Guns, more pics soon. Gentle Readers should note that some of my units will incorporate minis from the collection of John Hill from EK, (an excellent painter and thoroughly nice bloke) which I have acquired. He based his Brits in units of 10-11, which does not really work for GdB, so I will be adding my own to this core for the relevant regiments. I tend to re-do the flags for a uniform look. INFAMY, INFAMY (I seem to have it in for me.....) So, splurged on a big box o’ Vitrix to go with the Infamy rules. Its very pleasing when a big box of toys arrives at your door! I went for Caesarian Romans, so “Republican” figures. I prefer that end of the period. They can always be mixed with Segmentata wearing figures later. Like all Armies, the Romans weren’t always efficient with kit issue, so there’s a good argument that one cohort may have had the new shiny, and another in the same century didn’t. The figures are excellent. One slight beef, and its more about my choice that the figs. As the figs are Republican, they come with the feathered helmets rather than the horsehair crests. I decided to leave two units with then in, as I quite like them, and, y’know, kit supply. The others benefitted from a judicious clip just below the feathers, which left something which looks like the horsehair lug. The idea was to get the figs made up and on bases so that I can try out the rules So
